It's October
This image was taken in Southern Vermont during the fall of 2002. For me it is a fun scene. Pumpkins, scarecrow, fallen leaves - all part of October and fall in the Northeast. Sights like this are found all over New England.
Fence in the Fall

Leaf Secrets
White Ash Leaflets Groton State Forest, Vermont Birth, life, and death - each took place on the underside of a leaf. - Toni Morrison I have spent so many autumns in the Adirondacks that this last year I decided to go camping by myself in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, instead. It rained. It snowed. It got dark early. Get the picture. I got up at first light and decided to check out the view from Owl's Head. The gate was closed so I parked my car and walked. Soon I discovered that the road was freshly carpeted with white ash leaflets in soft yellows, peach and orange. Dew pearled on each leaf. I spent a nice chunk of time with these delightful leaflets and then continued my hike up the hill. Presently the Park Ranger drove by, followed by seven quickly moving cars which I later discovered was a photography workshop. I was still trekking up the hill when they passed me again going down. When I arrived at the overlook, the conditions were not favorable for quality shots. I was thankful that I had taken the slow route. That caravan didn't know what they had missed.

Turning Leaves
Adirondacks, New York Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn. - Elixabeth Lawrence, American writer It is funny how intimately one gets to know one's subjects when photographing. Since you are in the moment, one tends to remember all the nuances of each plant, flower, rock or leaf. Years afterwards, when returning to the same location, I greet the item and check on its condition. So I find it interesting, that I can not tell you exactly where this photograph was taken. I know it was taken in the Adirondacks. I wish each of you could experience a nature photography workshop, It is so funny to hear the oooh's, ahhh's and gasps of delight as sixteen people fan out through the woods looking for beauty. We call such sounds, leaf 'gasms or flower 'gasms. I think this photo must have been taken at an incredible leaf orgy at the edge of Stillwater Reservoir. Some days you hit enchantment. This was such a time and place. The leaves were colorful, fresh and wet. Everywhere you looked was another prize winning photograph. We have stopped at the same spot annually for nine years. Every other year we soon got back into our cars and traveled on. This year we stayed.
