Atomic Rooster
This interesting digital artwork is comprised of two different photographs combined to produce one surreal image.

Bedded Bighorn
Bighorn sheep are notoriously wary, so I felt honored to have snapped this one at such close range in Montana.

Warm Birch
Winter in northern Michigan can be brutal, and even at eight degrees above zero this simple composition exudes warmth. The image was captured on Fuji Provia slide fim and converted to a digital image file for your enjoyment.

Sculpted In Blue
Another image of the custom hot road as art form, from the Annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, Michigan.

Blue Morpho
The elusive and exotic Morpho Peleides, or Blue Morpho, momentarily basks in the sun. Rarely witnessed, difficult to capture, but perfectly rendered on Fuji Provia slide film at the Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Bottled Light
This image originated in the restored laboratory of Thomas Edison, located near Detroit, Michigan. The light pouring in from the nearby window illuminated these hand blown glass bottles, and captured my imagination.

Kiss The Bride
This lovely model released image captured a tender moment between mother and daughter near the altar. The warm color is provided by the northern Michigan afternoon sun.

Monarch of Yellowstone
This bull elk in full velvet allowed me to approach just close enough to get the shot, then lowered his massive head and began walking toward me. I retreated to a comfortable distance after getting the shot.

Cicada
Also known as the locust - this critter was captured in crisp detail way back in 1976 while studying photography at a Texas university.

Cooke City Cabin
This image was taken just outside of Yellowstone near Cooke City, Montana. I wonder how long that wagon has been parked there...

Look, Ma
This cute rascal was captured on film near the Trinity River outside Fort Worth, Texas, way back in 1976, and is now making its debut for the first time.

Crouching Tiger
The rare Siberian tiger strikes a pose at the Detroit Zoo.

Woodward Dream Cruise
I laid on my belly for over two hours waiting for that perfect shot to come into the viewfinder. My patience paid off with a memorable shot from the 2002 Annual Woodward Dream Cruise. The event draws over 1.5 million people to the Detroit area every August, and this is one of the many reasons why it is so popular.

Shepherd's Wagon
Charlie Duncan of Dubois, Wyoming came from hardy pioneer stock, and was born in this wagon. Later in life, Charlie used the wagon while tending his sheep in the rugged Wind River range of Wyoming. Charlie has passed on, but the wagon now rests in the county museum.

Tending The Herd
This bull elk in full velvet moves through the lush Yellowstone meadow to keep a close eye on the three elk cows resting just out of view. I snapped the image and retreated to a safer distance.

Eye Candy
Another image of the custom hot rod as art form, taken from the 2002 Annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, Michigan.

Fall Leaf
Autumn in Michigan is a magical time, as this lovely macro image demonstrates. The warm colors are highlighted by the freshly fallen raindrops collected on the surface. This image was captured in northern Michigan.

Fire On The Mountain
Early evening in the Absaroka mountain range of Montana gave me a fleeting opportunity to get this image as the sun shone briefly on the peak as the clouds cleared from an afternoon thunderstorm.

Ice Falls
One more shot of Michigan's famous Tahquamenon Falls in winter. The ice formations in the background exhibit a wide range of color, from pale blue to medium brown, and were created from the overspray of the rushing water.

Quench
This is what butterflies do when they get thirsty. "Heliconius Hecale", the Hecale Longwing butterfly, sips water from a leaf at the Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This image exhibits excellent detail and color right down to the droplet of water dangling from it's proboscus.

Tracks To Nowhere
This winter scene caught my eye as we cruised the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in midwinter. The tracks start and stop on the ice, as if suspended in time.

Oriental Arachnid
This colorful arachnid was described to me as a "Japanese Fighting Spider" by a local Okinawan villager. The detail is incredible - right down to the "silk" squirting from the spider's abdomen.

Medicine Mound, TX - Pop. Zero
This image is of the Cole family store in the ghost town of Medicine Mound, TX. The store was constructed of granite river rock from Okahoma and once served as gas station, bank, and post office to the thriving Hardeman County community. Proceeds from print sales benefit the privately owned and operated Medicine Mound Museum.

Stalling
This fella patiently awaits the next group of tourists to Mount Rushmore National Park. The hanging boots complete the picture.

Indian Paintbrush
Geri Bates scoured the Rocky Mountains for the perfect Indian Paintbrush flower, then captured it nicely in macro form from above.

Strut
Nothing says love like the fascinating display of courting behaviour of the common peacock, seen here trying to impress a nearby female. The burst of color and vivid detail are amazing to witness.

Pink Rose
One need not travel the world to find beautiful images. This near perfect rose bloom was captured in my front yard.

Pitcher Plant
Details of the exotic pitcher plant captured on Fuji Provia slide film at the Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Pollinated Purple
Another incredibly detailed image of the Hecale Longwing butterfly, this time sipping nectar from the purple bloom. Notice the dusting of purple colored pollen between the eyes. Eye popping color combine with vivid details to provide an interesting image for home or office.

Blown
The title says it all...and one look through the open hood is all it takes. This baby is all businees AND pleasure. Taken at the 2002 Annual Woodward Dream Cruise near Detroit, Michigan.

Resting Blue Morpho
"Morpho peleides" - the exotic Blue Morpho butterfly - taking a break at the Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Blue Morpho rarely opens its beautifully colored wings to bask in the sun, but I captured one doing exactly that. It is available elsewhere in the gallery.

Rest Stop
This award winning image was taken at the Detroit Zoo. The beautiful "Heliconius hecale", or Hecale Longwing, landed briefly on the sprig of evergreen.

Road To Paradise
Paradise, Michigan is a must-see destination when visiting the pristine Upper Peninsula. This small county road was illuminated by the full moon on a crisp winter evening, and appears to go on forever.

Brendan Shanahan, Number 14
Here's one for all the Detroit Red Wings hockey fans around the globe, as Brendan Shanahan basks in the glory of their Stanley cup victory parade through downtown Detroit in 2002. Note the chocolate lab riding in his lap...

Ruby Archer's Barn
Ruby Archer once lived in the small community of Chillicothe, TX, and was a good friend to artist Georgia O'Keefe. This skull still hangs on the barn behind her pioneer homestead in town.

Cattail Snowscape
Iron County in Michigan's pristine Upper Peninsula provided this scene, complete with sparkles in the freshly fallen snow.

Snow Tiger
The rare Siberian tiger poses briefly in the snow at the Detroit Zoo. It is estimated that less than 250 of these magnificent animals remain on Earth.

Solitude
If you like fly fishing, it doesn't get much better than early morning on the Snake River in Yellowstone, with the Tetons in the distance.

Yellowstone Sunrise
Photographers are always chasing the light, and Geri Bates captured this scene nicely on Fuji Provia slide film as the sun rose over Lake Yellowstone.

Root Beer Falls
The water draining from the swamplands of Michigan's heavily wooded Upper Peninsula takes its root beer color from the tannic acid leaching through the soil. Tahquamenon Falls in winter is a magical winter wonderland, as you can plainly see.

Tahquemenon Falls On Ice
Another amazing view of Tahquamenon falls in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The temperature in February was in the single digits, and capturing these images presented a challenge for both photographer and equipment.

Teton Reflections
The Teton mountain range is reflected in the Snake River near Moran Junction, Wyoming.

The Twins
The Blue Flax wildflower is a common sight in the Rocky Mountains, yet these were so symmetrical I call them The Twins. Brilliant color courtesy of Fuji Provia slide film in natural lighting.

Hanging Out
This rare Siberian tiger does his best to beat the August heat. Just looking at him makes me want to take a nap.

Trepidation
The elk fawn ventured out into the Gibbon River in Yellowstone, closely watched by the mother cow just out of view.

Waterfall Leaf
Another autumn scene from Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The area around Munising, Michigan is famous for scenes such as this.

Wood Nymph
An amazing image of the Idea Leuconoe, or Wood Nymph, butterfly resting briefly on a leaf at the Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

1895 Maytag
In the pioneer days, laundry was done perhaps once a week, usually on a Saturday. This forerunner to the modern day washing machine was displayed at the Chippewa Nature Center near Midland, Michigan.

Black-Eyed Susans
These stunning Black-Eyed Susan flowers bring forth a burst of color for your home or office.

Lookout Cub
This young black bear cub scurried some twenty feet up the tree out of perceived danger at the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary in Orr, Minnesota. A portion of the proceeds from print sales benefit the non-profit American Bear Association.

Lost Lake
Every now and then a photographer is fortunate enough to stumble upon a pristine landscape that begs to be captured on film. This quiet little lake tucked away in the Superior National Forest of Michigan's Upper Peninsula revealed a kaleidescope of fall color in October of 2002. The exact location will remain a secret.

Miner's Falls
Yet another image from Michigan's spectular Upper Peninsula. The water takes its root beer color from the tannic acid in the soil of the surrounding cedar swamps. The falls are located just outside Munising, Michigan in the Superior National Forest.

Tiger's Lounge
The majestic Siberian Tiger, surrounded by winter foliage, basks in the afternoon sun at the Detroit Zoo. This particular tiger has become a favorite subject of mine during my many visits there. It has been said that this image looks as if it was shot in a portrait studio.

Safety
To a bear cub in the wild, a tree is a safe haven from perceived danger. This small black bear cub quickly clawed its way to safety at the urging of his mother as another bear entered the area. A portion of the proceeds from print sales benefit the non-profit American Bear Association and the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary near Orr, Minnesota.

Better Perspective
Bears often stand upright to get a better view of their surroundings or to make themselves appear larger. These two cubs can barely see over the tall meadow grass at the Vince Shute Wildlife sanctuary in Orr, Minnesota. A portion of the proceeds from print sales benefit the non-profit American Bear Association.

Black-Eyed Susans
These stunning Black-Eyed Susan flowers bring forth a burst of color for your home or office.

Bog Fritillary
Boloria eunomia - or Bog Fritillary - may be a threatened species due to changing habitat if global warming occurs as predicted over the next several years. Algonquin Provincial Park in northern Ontario provided the setting for this image.

Common Merganser
This common merganser and four downy chicks enjoy a sunny morning in July at Algonquin Provincial Park in northern Ontario.

Curiousity
A small black bear cub stands in evening's warm light to get a better view of her surroundings at the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary near Orr, Minnesota. A portion of the proceeds from print sales benefit the non-profit American Bear Association.

Dryadula Phaetusa
Dryadula Phaetusa - the beautiful Banded Orange butterfly - captured perfectly on Fuji Provia transparency film at the Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Great Blue Heron
The wary Great Blue Heron waits for breakfast to swim by in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario.

Independence
Black bears "disperse" their offspring as yearlings to fend for themselves. This healthy yearling must now compete with his peers for survival in the wild. A portion of the proceeds from print sales benefit the non-profit American Bear Association.

Night Vision
This layered Photoshop composite was created to draw the viewer into the moonlit landscape of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Which do you notice first - the full moon or the deer...

Postman
Heliconius melpomene - "Postman" - perched atop a bloom. The incredible detail was captured perfectly on Fuji Provia slide film at the Detroit Zoo.

Rake The Roof
If you've never seen LOTS of snow, you wouldn't know what this guy is doing. Raking the snow off the roof keeps it from collapsing under the extra weight, and when you live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this becomes a routine chore.

Reflect
It takes a moment to find the water's edge in this image from Algonquin Provincial Park in northern Ontario. Study it awhile and you'll see it.

Rest Stop II
This gorgeous Hecale Longwing butterfly paused briefly on a sprig of evergreen at the Detroit Zoo. Fuji Provia slide film captured the details perfectly.

The Shy Guy
This shy fellow looks a little worried about my presence, as if trying to decide whether to climb to safety up the tree at the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary near Orr, Minnesota.

Sunday Drive
This old Ford was found sitting near a farmhouse in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, all shined up as if waiting for a Sunday drive in the country.

Algonquin Sunset
The setting sun illuminates a large bog in the southwest section of Algonquin Provincial Park in northern Ontario.

Table Manners
"Winnie" keeps a sharp eye out for danger as her cubs supplement their natural diet with a feast of granola and peanuts at the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary near Orr, Minnesota. A portion of the proceeds from print sales benefit the American Bear Association.

Ursus Americanus
Ursus Americanus - the black bear - is actually a rather timid creature, but still commands respect in the wild. This large male was so close it made me somewhat uncomfortable, so I got the shot and backed away. A portion of the proceeds from print sales benefit the non-profit American Bear Association.

Ahhhh - Right There
This huge male black bear was estimated to weigh near 700 lbs., and I captured the moment as he paused for a quick back scratch at the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary near Orr, Minnesota. A portion of the proceeds from print sales go to benefit the non-profit American Bear Association.

Balance
These yearling black bear cubs hesitated to come too far into the open meadow at the Vince Shute Wildlife sanctuary near Orr, Minnesota. A portion of the proceeds from print sales benefit the American Bear Association.

Ben's Poster
The top winning Saint Bernard show dog of all time deserves his very own poster, which Due North Gallery gladly provided. This image is dedicated to Slaton Saints and all of Ben's many fans around the globe.

Simply Red
There's no doubt about who's the boss of the barnyard in this simple composition from the Chippewa Nature Center near Midland, Michigan. The warm afternoon light brings out every detail right down to the the downy feathers around the rooster's eye.

Steamed
The Tarantula Train blows off a little steam as it prepares for departure from the Fort Worth Stockyards in Texas.

A and W
This image from the 2002 Annual Woodward Dream Cruise takes us back to a simpler time of poodle skirts, fast cars, and Friday nights at the drive in.
